The Chips

The Chips is Mark Durksen (lead vocals, bass, and keyboard), Phil Klassen (guitars and backing vocals) and Rory Schafer (drums and percussion). We have all grown up in the Niagara region are connected to it in many ways; through schools, churches, friends, jobs and places of entertainment. We formed our band in late 2007, called ourselves RPM and pretty much just jammed three times during the rest of that school year. At the beginning of the summer of 2008 our name had changed to The Chips and we began practicing regularly and writing original material. This turned out to be a lot of fun, and challenging at times, as all of us were new to collective song writing and our stylistic influences differed greatly. Now we have around twelve original songs written and polished and are working on more. In the short time our band has been active, the three of us have grown as musicians and as team workers, and have discovered that we share a common goal of playing unique, tight and entertaining music. We especially love playing live shows. Our venues have ranged from The Mansion House to a church basement to a friend’s basement to a high school cafeteria to university pubs; and we placed third in this year’s Isaac’s Battle of the Bands at Brock University. Our sound varies widely, could be described simply as fun rock. We hope you come watch us and have a great time.
