Climbing Vines by Molly Keczan with HerciniArts Collective

(Beamsville / Toronto)

A body intertwines in and around fabric, much like the vines in a farmer's field, portraying beauty and labour of the Niagara grape and wine industry

Bio: Molly Keczan began her exploration of movement as a rhythmic gymnast which lead her to travel throughout North America and to such far out places as the Czech Republic and Belgium. At the age of 16, Molly followed her love for dance, and began training Russian Ballet at the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts under Vitek Wincza. She now has a BFA in hand as a graduate of Ryerson University's Dance program, where she studied with highly noted staff and worked with choreographers such as Christopher House, Robert Glumbek, Darryl Tracy and Yvonne Ng.

Molly is thrilled to return to her monkey roots and climb things again. She loves to collaborate with the brilliant and star filled minds of the HerciniArts gang and most recently traveled to Montreal to be part of Lady Peasblossoms Sanctuary on the Zoofest stage. Molly is inspired by such companies as Pilobolus, Cirque Du Soleil and Shen Wei Dance Arts and has a goal of creating a different dimension of dance through the use of aerial space.

Hercinia Arts Collective:
Hercinia comes from the name of a Germanic firebird, not unlike the phoenix, whose glowing feathers light the path ahead for travellers.

The Hercinia Arts Collective was established as an offshoot of Toronto Aerial Dance by core members who suddenly realized their own big ideas were trying to take over and would soon require a little more space to breathe.

These big ideas centred around creating a space and a company that could operate on a truly collaborative basis; where core members would work with a number of contributing artists from diverse fields in an open door environment that would continually challenge all those involved to think outside the box.

Our goal is to constantly push the boundaries between traditional art forms and use this fusion to express the otherwise inexpressible to the widest possible audience.

Or, in short...
Hercinia Arts is a collective endeavour where core members with foundations in aerial, dance, acro and theatre collaborate in an open door environment with artists from a diverse range of fields. Our goal is to continually blur the line between traditional art forms and create work that cannot necessarily be classified as a specific genre. Through our open-door collaborative process and by offering classes at accessible rates, we also aim to encourage and inspire young artists to do the same.
