> PART OF THE SOUND SOUND IMPROVISED MUSIC PRESENTATION <
Venue: TBD Time: Sunday 6pm Category: Music City of Origin: St. Catharines, ON Price: Free
Marinko’s performance will include self-made video and is aimed at having a very live and improvised feel, as well as a very cutting-edge esthetic despite using “obsolete” (vinyl records & VHS tapes) and circuit-bent (DIY-modified) equipment.
Marinko has performed internationally as an electronic musician and DJ. He was part of the Vinyl Interventions Trio with Esther Bourdages of Montreal and Carrie Gates of Saskatoon, a collective that was profiled in a number of Canadian art journals and performed all over Canada. Marinko’s work has been described as “an intersection between street art, the dance floor and the gallery walls” as well as “low tech gets high” and “electric folk art.” Marinko’s performance at ITS 2017 will be a return to basics for the artist and DJ, who comes from a tradition of techno turntablism rooted in the rave scene and experimental music akin to “noise music.”
Marinko’s art belongs in collections all over the world. A father of two, he currently runs Thunder Gallery in Niagara Falls and works on art every day.
