Company Bio: From Hercini artist Molly Keczan: Niagara has had a huge impact on who i am today, as I spent my youth and much of my adolescence acquiring memories and experiences in and around the region. I grew up dancing for passing cards on my front porch facing Regional Road 81 in Beamsville. Performing would become a huge part of my life and the farm in which i grew up has truly inspired me. The farm is lush with grape vines; and has always supported two barns that house thousands of chickens. To me, Niagara is an area rich in beautiful soil, and historic land. Living at the foot of the escarpment has brought such wonder to me and i continue to explore that curiosity and magic through art. Hercinia Arts Collective: Hercinia comes from the name of a Germanic firebird, not unlike the phoenix, whose glowing feathers light the path ahead for travellers. The Hercinia Arts Collective was established as an offshoot of Toronto Aerial Dance by core members who suddenly realized their own big ideas were trying to take over and would soon require a little more space to breathe. These big ideas centred around creating a space and a company that could operate on a truly collaborative basis; where core members would work with a number of contributing artists from diverse fields in an open door environment that would continually challenge all those involved to think outside the box. Our goal is to constantly push the boundaries between traditional art forms and use this fusion to express the otherwise inexpressible to the widest possible audience. Or, in short... Hercinia Arts is a collective endeavour where core members with foundations in aerial, dance, acro and theatre collaborate in an open door environment with artists from a diverse range of fields. Our goal is to continually blur the line between traditional art forms and create work that cannot necessarily be classified as a specific genre. Through our open-door collaborative process and by offering classes at accessible rates, we also aim to encourage and inspire young artists to do the same. More here: www.herciniarts.com
