Poised between light and dark, nouveau and nostalgia—For Esmé is an electronic art pop trio fronted by Toronto’s Martha Meredith, Dave Thiel, and Nathan Crook.

About:

For Esmé was named one of 5 ‘Toronto Bands Set To Blow Up In 2015’ by Now Magazine. Their single ‘You’ has been in heavy rotation on MUCH Music, and both it and ‘Just Yet’ have been prominently featured on blogs all over the world. This year the band has opened for TOPS, Brave Shores, Bear Mountain and Lower Dens and played CMW, NXNE, CMJ, WAYHOME, and Pop Montreal. For Esmé launched Sugar with a sold out show at the Drake Hotel in October. The band was featured on Indie Shuffle’s “Top 15 Female Vocalists of 2015”, was #4 on Ride The Tempo’s “Top 20 albums of 2015” and #21 Silent Shout’s Top 50 Songs of 2015.

Artists:

Martha Meredith – Vocals, Drum Machine, Keys
Nathan Crook – Guitar, Vocals
Dave Thiel – Bass, Electronic Soundscapes

Praise:

“With its focused, literate and unironically committed approach to the genre’s soundscape, it’s as grounded and solid a record as anything that has come out this year from bands who have already graduated to headliner status.” – Grayowl Point

“Toronto three-piece For Esmé, named for the J.D. Salinger story, make electronic pop music that’s optimistic and sincere. Their nostalgic palettes, expansive environments, the wide-eyed pose — it’s the kind of sound that would have you believe the world is a big place and it’s full of possibility.” -Chart Attack

“I had to resist quoting the “Powerpuff Girls” narrator, mostly because sugary sweet is not truly what “Sugar” was going for. It’s something to applaud a band for—throwing a curve ball to surprise listeners. Empowering, feminist, and poppy enough to dance to, this record is a gem. – Ride The Tempo
