Jason Kenemy’s Machine Soul Maker plays music for the world of electro-mechanical life emergent all around us. Songs for an imaginary new consciousness – that let the listener feel their soul as new.
Jason Kenemy’s Machine Soul Maker flows equally from observation of music by Steve Reich, Brian Eno and Jason Lescalleet and ongoing wonder at the origin of consciousness (i.e. What’s the difference between you and a rock?).
While listening to minimalist musical structures – the composer was struck at once by the mechanical neatness of the music and the question…Where is the SOUL?
To answer this question – Jason turned to his dusty science text books which described soul (consciousness) as spontaneously emerging from biological structures once a required level of complexity was met. What then of our the increasingly complex electro mechanical structures in our lives? Has the required level been met? Let’s say…YES. It has!
This music serves as a welcome to our new friends – and make better friends with our old selves too.
“Jason Kenemy plays piano like Glenn Gould if he’d spent a year in an ashram.”
