A bit of finger picking guitar, some violin lines, throw in some guitar feedback/noise, don’t forget the loop pedal.
Euchrid is Alex Ring. Composed and improvised instrumental music is his thing. Inspiration can be heard in the instrumental works of Jim O’Rourke, Mick Turner and Warren Ellis/Nick Cave’s soundtrack projects. Alex was born and raised in St. Catharines, and continues to reside downtown. His vast musical interests landed him roles playing fiddle in the local bluegrass band The Highwire String Band and bass in noise rockers Frontwards. His recordings mix carefully composed acoustic guitar pieces, improvised studies on violin and aggressive noise explorations. This performance is both in step with, and a departure from, his 2016 contribution to RHIZOMES, in which listeners were encouraged to indulge in an increasingly intense noise installation. While the guiding principal remains sound and mood, chaos is replaced by melodies and unknown sounds are replaced by the familiar…there may even be a bit of toe-tapping.
