A forest scape composed entirely from recycled clothing challenges viewers to reflect on wasteful habits.
After learning that every North American discards an average of 81 lbs of textile goods every year Alex was surprised and inspired to make change. 81 Pounds gives visual representation to our wastefulness as a society. The alarming lack of transparency in the fashion industry makes it difficult to make conscious purchases. Alex’s goal is to encourage viewers to reflect on the entire lifecycle of their clothing and avoid fast fashion by seeking more sustainable alternatives.
Mahtay’s community room will be transformed entirely out of upcycled textile goods, graciously donation by our local Value Village. 81 Pounds gives new life to preloved clothing and homegoods, keeping them out of landfills.
